To backwash a pool sand filter, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the pool pump.
2. Turn the multiport valve on top of the filter to the "backwash" position.
3. Attach a backwash hose to the waste port on your filter and make sure it's securely attached.
4. Turn on the pool pump.
5. Allow the pump to run for 2-3 minutes or until the water in the backwash sight glass runs clear.
6. Turn off the pool pump.
7. Turn the multiport valve to the "rinse" position.
8. Turn on the pool pump again and let it run for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
9. Turn off the pool pump.
10. Turn the multiport valve to the "filter" position.
11. Turn on the pool pump again and resume normal operation.
It's important to note that the frequency of backwashing will depend on how frequently you use your pool and the size of your filter. Generally, it's recommended to backwash your sand filter once every 1-2 weeks.
